Often people being supervised think they are powerless. However supervision is not a one way street and the lawyer being supervised can play a part in improving the experience.
Dr Michael McNamara in his doctoral research on supervision in law firms suggests that those who are supervised can contribute to the quality of the supervision by:
- Listening to the advice and comments
- Preparing well for the supervision meetings
- Asking questions about details, timelines and priorities
- Developing a clear framework on frequency of meetings
- Discussing expectations.
Give it a go.
